Job Description:

SUMMARY: Responsible for direction and supervision of Quality Assurance personnel. Deal directly with plant wide quality issues on a daily basis. Assist in the formulation and implementation of the quality system through the use of quality plans, procedures, and instructions.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Work closely with departmental supervision on nonconforming material disposition. Provide technical support in areas of product and process control. Assure the efficiency and effectiveness of the quality assurance system. Keep supervisor informed on significant matters through verbal and written communication.

Work with others on new job developments, first article inspections (FAI), material evaluation and other issues. Investigate and/or monitor customer complaints and discrepant material reports. Work with customers and suppliers on quality related issues. Working with customers and suppliers will include occasional travel.

Perform administrative responsibilities of job to include good employee relations and resolving potential grievances. Make recommendations as to possible improvements in procedures, methods or equipment. Oversee the calibration system, its equipment and function. Participate in professional associations related to manufacturing and/or quality interests.

Direct, instruct and oversee departmental personnel as to methods and procedures, standards of performance, company rules, safety precautions and other matters affecting their work. Consult supervisor regarding unusual matters. Maintain discipline and good personnel relations within limits of established company policy.

Perform other related duties assigned by supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university; or five to seven years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

MATHEMATICAL and/or COMPUTER SKILLS: Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. Knowledge of computer operation and related software required. REASONING ABILITY: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: ASQ Certified Mechanical Inspector; ASQ Certified Quality Technician; or ASQ Quality Auditor.

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Directly supervises more than 5 employees in the Quality Assurance Department. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
