The Assistant Superintendent of Catholic Schools is an innovative and faith-filled educational leader assisting the Superintendent in supporting the activities and services of the Catholic Schools Office. -This position focuses on engagement with the schools and community to support personnel, pastors, and the continuous improvement of Catholic education in the Diocese of Erie. The Assistant Superintendent will collaborate with all members of the Catholic Schools Office and assist in the comprehensive strategic planning, implementation, and evaluation of the Catholic Schools Office programs and services.Duties and responsibilitiesThis job description does not provide a comprehensive listing of all activities, duties and responsibilities required of the employee for this job. The essential functions of the position include but are not limited to the following: -Spiritual Leadership: Collaborates with the Superintendent to foster Catholic Identity and Mission in Catholic schools in the Diocese of Erie, which are effective agents of the Church's ministry of evangelization, catechesis, and faith formation.

  • Provides leadership for spiritual growth and catechesis for Catholic Schools Office staff, Catholic school administrators, and school personnel.
  • Integrates Catholic social teaching in daily decision making, planning, and delivery of Catholic education leadership and support.Academic Leadership: Serves as a liaison between the Catholic Schools Office and Catholic school leaders across the diocese to promote academic excellence for each school.
    • Provides consultation for presidents, school pastors, and principals regarding academic growth and achievement.
    • Collaborates with Catholic Schools Office staff to ensure principals and teachers have access to high-quality professional development opportunities.
    • Assists presidents and pastors with supervision and evaluation of principals.
    • Provides guidance for principals on supervision and evaluation of teachers.
    • Addresses concerns brought to the attention of the Catholic Schools Office related to student academics, behavior, and athletics.
    • Plans and conducts the New Principal Induction Program which includes orientation, networking activities, one-on-one mentoring sessions, and professional development offerings.
    • Plans and conducts the New Teacher Induction Program in accordance with PDE and diocesan requirements.
    • Assists principals with completion of state principal certification and PA Act 45/PIL professional development requirements. -Executive Leadership: Provides guidance to school leaders in responding to student and personnel matters while also monitoring operational vitality. -
      • Assumes a leadership role in the absence of the Superintendent of Catholic Schools.
      • Assists the superintendent with president and board development.
      • Writes Catholic school policy and monitors for compliance in accordance with civil law, PDE rules and regulations, Canon law, and the bishop's directives.
      • Provides guidance on legal concerns and personnel matters for school leaders.
      • Collaborates with the Office for the Protection of Children and Youth to address concerns that arise and monitor policy compliance in Catholic schools.
      • Monitors schools to assess operational vitality.
      • Assists in the process of restructuring Catholic schools in the diocese including, arranging career counseling and placement services for displaced employees, and the redistribution of diocesan educational materials and resources.
      • Monitors school and/or school system personnel files for compliance.
      • Oversees Catholic Schools Office external communications in collaboration with the Communications Office.
      • Collaborates with diocesan offices/departments on issues that affect Catholic schools.
      • Assists pastors and systems in the process of principal recruitment, hiring, termination, and setting salaries in schools in the diocese.
      • Assists principals in the process of school personnel recruitment, hiring, termination, and setting salaries in schools in the diocese.
      • Performs any other job-related tasks to ensure the efficient operations of the Catholic Schools Office as assigned by the Superintendent.QualificationsEducation:
        • A master's degree in an education or leadership field and holds a school principal certification.
        • Superintendent certification or willingness to obtain.Experience: --- - - - - - -Minimum of 5 years in education, including school administration required (Catholic school administration strongly preferred).Catholic Identity: --- - - - - - -Practicing Catholic, in good standing with the Church and actively participating in a parish. Possesses a deep understanding and appreciation for the Catholic Faith, especially in areas pertaining to education, faith formation, and human development.Skills:
          • Knowledge of the structure and basic teachings of the Roman Catholic Church and current trends in Catholic education.
          • Knowledgeable of federal, state, local, and Canon laws and how to develop school policy in accordance with these laws.
          • Ability to manage and address school staff personnel needs and implement policies and procedures accordingly.
          • Ability to apply conflict resolution strategies with administrators, teachers, staff, parents, and other community stakeholders.
          • Excellent interpersonal skills, including leadership, supervisory, consensus-building, and an ability to collaborate effectively with clergy and other religious community members.
          • Ability to act with professional discretion; works with and safeguards sensitive and confidential information.
          • Ability to personally utilize technology to increase productivity, efficiency and promote Catholic schools.
          • Excellent written and verbal communication and presentational skills.
          • Ability to travel to schools and meetings, sometimes during evenings and weekends.Working conditions
            • Frequent travel to the various schools, parishes, missions, and conference centers of the Diocese of Erie.
            • Work may involve evening and weekend work, including presentations, meetings, and conferences.Physical requirements
              • Able to sit and perform computer work for lengthy periods of time.
              • Ability to lift 35 pounds without assistance.
