Summary: The Med Tech demonstrates knowledge of the Medication Administration Cycle: Observations, Report changes, Visits to Practitioner, Record and Storage of medication, Administration and Documentation of medications. Collaborates with other team/household members to ensure a person-centered culture in meeting the needs and desires of residents and other staff. Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following: Identifies and suggests innovative approaches and participates in implementing performance improvement opportunities. Maintains compliance with Presbyterian SeniorCare Network policy and procedure in accordance with governing laws, regulations, regulatory agencies, accreditation bodies and community standards. Demonstrates on a consistent basis individual and team behavior that supports the Person-Centered, Woodwell and Woodside philosophies of Presbyterian SeniorCare Network. Consistently upholds the mission, values and behavior standards of Presbyterian SeniorCare Network. Maintains confidentiality. Maintains regular and reliable attendance. Other duties may be assigned. Certification obtained through successful completion of DHS approved Medication Administration training, including insulin training by a certified diabetic educator annually. Accurately assist residents with administration of medications, completes blood glucose monitoring and treatments, documenting appropriately in the electronic Medication Administration / Treatment Records. (EMARs /ETARs) Assures prompt reporting of any medication concerns, refusals or errors. Reports discrepancies to the supervisor for review and or follow up. Routinely monitors /audits med cart for medication refills, monitors expiration dates, assures medications are dated and labeled accurately and assures discontinued medications are pulled from the cart. Accurately completes vital signs: Weight/Height, Temperature, Pulse, Respirations, Blood Pressure and Pulse Oximetry as ordered and when conditions indicate. Monitors residents for any signs/symptoms of pain and reports concerns. Records vitals, documents PRN medications and their effectiveness. Contributes accurate reporting of changes in resident#s status through documentation and verbal communication to ensure continuity of care. Report signs and symptoms of illness, change in condition or behavior to nursing. Demonstrates knowledge of Infection control policies and procedures. Meets safety needs by reporting environmental hazards. Education and/or Experience High School or GED and DHS-approved medication administration certification. Computer Skills Ability to use computer or laptop for documentation purposes. Certifications, Licenses, Registrations To complete certification requirements in Dementia Care and DHS Direct Care training during orientation period. Obtain and maintain certification in Medication Administration including insulin administration, CPR and first aid.
