Role Summary/PurposeThe System Performance Engineer will lead the development of advanced technology solutions that drive competitive differentiation in our locomotive products and will provide the necessary technical leadership to enable effective design execution.Essential Responsibilities- Serve as a recognized leader in defining the state of the art locomotive system designs in orderto anticipate, develop, and apply technologies to current and future business opportunities- Predict behavior of locomotive plants and control systems to anticipate system interactionsbefore they have a chance of negatively impact locomotive performance- Create and exercise models to identify opportunities and drive design changes that improve overall system efficiency- Provide systems engineering leadership to teams working assigned projects- Provide consultation and technical direction to the Engineering community on near-term and longer-range projects with substantial business impact- Translate customer needs through clearly articulated requirements and decompose these requirements for subsystem design execution- Collaborate closely with product management and customer facing service teams- Interface with other GE businesses, suppliers, and internal / external customers to formulatesystem level requirements and leverage best practices- Remain current in advanced technologies for new product introduction, performance improvement, cost reduction, and problem resolution- Provide technical guidance and mentoring to less experienced Engineers- Leverage expertise to resolve problems in the field or during the manufacturing processes- Make recommendations after analysis of data & execution of formal trade studies- Establish and maintain relationships with required external and internal interfaces to ensure that customer requirements are understood and being achieved- Protect the Intellectual Property rights of the Company- Execute the design, analysis, and evaluation of assigned projects using sound Engineering principles and adhering to business standards, practices, procedures, and product / program requirements- Document technical data generated by the assigned project consistent with engineering policies and procedures- Provide timely communications on significant issues or developments- Participate on teams assigned to address organizational initiatives and generic issues- Participate as a presenter or reviewer in technical and program reviews- Promote technical excellence within the organization and support groups through design /technical review participation, lessons learned awareness and application, DFR / DFSS, and technical innovation / growth fostering- Effectively communicate technical aspects of system activities vertically and horizontally in the organization- Promote simplification and implement initiatives to continuously improve the responsiveness of the organization to customer / business needs- Ensure positive actions are taken to encourage personal growth, technical development, and improved interpersonal skillsQualifications/Requirements- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Computer Science from an accredited university or college- Minimum of 5 years of experience in an Engineering position?Desired Characteristics- Demonstrated skills in modelling systems and solving problems with Matlab and Excel- Broad knowledge of the locomotive and able to model the dynamic behavior of locomotive subsystems- Strong oral and written communication skills- Strong interpersonal and leadership skills- Demonstrated ability to analyze and resolve problems- Demonstrated leadership in advancing the state of the art in a technical specialty- Strong technical aptitude, including applicable engineering tools and systems- Working knowledge of locomotive subsystems- Fast-Works mentality- Ability to "think outside the box"- Ability to formulate strategies with Senior Management and demonstrate experience in implementing these strategies- PC proficiency- Proven track record of delivering results and leading teams in dynamic business environment- Change agent capable of influencing at all organizational levels- Customer centric mindset- Customer facing and service experience*Relocation package may be provided if you meet eligibility guidelines
