Job Description:

BASIC FUNCTION:Under the supervision of Valor Recovery Center's (VRC) Clinical Director, our Program Therapists are ultimately responsible for providing individual and group therapy to clients with a primary substance use disorder diagnosis. Additional responsibilities include:
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES:

  • Utilizing knowledge of a variety of therapeutic models and theories to understand and plan intervention strategies for a variety of clients.
  • Monitoring client progress and making changes to the therapeutic approach and best practice, evidenced based interventions based on client response to treatment and progress in continuum of care.
  • Working collaboratively with the client and appropriate others to develop a comprehensive treatment plan that addresses priority needs of the client, desired treatment outcomes, an agreed upon plan of action, and reassessment.
  • Maintaining client records related to screening, intake, treatment, continuing care, progress toward goals and objectives, discharge summary, and treatment outcomes that are accurate, concise, timely, and useful for coordinating treatment team planning, monitoring, and review.
  • Ensure referral for appropriate behavioral health follow-up of any psychological disorders or symptoms requiring longer-term and/or medical/psychiatric intervention.
  • Provide crisis intervention as needed.
  • Ability to collaborate with outside agencies.
  • Solution focused and strength based in your client-driven service delivery.
  • Coordinating and cooperating with local agencies and organizations necessary to expedite treatment for each client.
  • Provides client education relating to the illness of substance abuse and the process of recovery.
  • Responsible for maintaining appropriate professional certifications and Licenses.

  • COMPETENCIES RELATED TO POSITION AND DUTIES AS OUTLINED
    • Demonstrate knowledge of the philosophies, practices, policies, and outcomes of the most generally accepted and scientifically supported models of treatment, recovery, relapse prevention, and continuing care for addiction and other substance-related problems.
    • Demonstrate an understanding of the value of an interdisciplinary approach to addiction treatment and contribute to the team through communication and coordination.
    • Demonstrate skills in group therapy that include active listening, paraphrasing, reflecting, and summarizing, conveying warmth, respect, and genuineness in a culturally appropriate manner, validating, demonstrating empathic understanding, and using power and authority appropriately in support of treatment goals.
    • Demonstrate an understanding of the established diagnostic criteria (DSM V) for substance use disorders and describe treatment modalities and placement criteria within the continuum of care as well as ability to apply accepted criteria for diagnosis of substance use disorders in making treatment recommendations.
    • Demonstrate ability to provide services appropriate to the personal and cultural identity and language of the client.
    • Demonstrate ability to carry out the actions necessary to form a group, including but not limited to determining group type, purpose, size, and leadership; recruiting and selecting members; establishing group goals and clarifying behavioral ground rules for participating; identifying outcomes; and determining criteria and methods for termination or graduation from the group.
    • Demonstrate ability to facilitate the client's identification, selection, and practice of strategies that help sustain the knowledge, skills, and attitudes needed for maintaining treatment progress and preventing relapse.
    • Demonstrate the importance of self-awareness in one's personal, professional, and cultural life.
    • Demonstrate an understanding of addiction and behavioral health related to substance use disorders.
    • Demonstrate ability to facilitate the development of basic and life skills associated with recovery.
    • Demonstrate knowledge of one's obligations to adhere to ethical and behavioral standards of conduct in the helping relationship.
    • Demonstrate ability to establish rapport and determination of need for additional professional assistance.
    • Demonstrate ability to screen for psychoactive substance toxicity and intoxication, record screen, and provide results to applicable staff.
    • Demonstrate ability to screen for danger to self or others.
    • Demonstrate ability to screen for co-occurring mental health issues.
    • Demonstrate ability to analyze and interpret the data to determine treatment recommendations.
    • Demonstrate ability to formulate mutually agreed-on and measurable treatment goals and objectives with the individual served.
    • Demonstrate knowledge of self-administration policy and its applicable practice.
    • Demonstrate appropriate documentation of client activities throughout continuum of care.
    • Demonstrate knowledge of self-administration policy and its applicable practice.
    • Demonstrate an ability to seek and participate in ongoing appropriate supervision and consultation, including the obtainment of continuing education.
    • Demonstrate adherence to Federal and State laws and agency regulations appropriately regarding the protection of client rights to their privacy relating to records and communication to third parties.

    • NON-ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
      • Performs other duties of the position and within the individual's capabilities as assigned by his/her supervisor.

        QUALIFICATIONS/CREDENTIALS:
        • Bachelor's degree with a Master's Degree preferred in Social/Behavioral Sciences with prior Substance Abuse Counseling experience
        • LSW/LPC required, LISW/LPCC preferred
        • Excellent Verbal, non-verbal and written communication skills
        • Time management & organizational skills.
        • Excellent communication and writing skill
