Job Description UPMC Hamot is hiring a full-time Patient Care Technician to join the team on 4 Medical Respiratory Intermediate unit! \n If you’re passionate about patient care and looking for a career that offers great benefits and plenty of room for growth, we invite you to explore this opportunity today! \n Previous patient care experience required. \n Title and salary will be determined based upon education and experience. \n \n Responsibilities: \n \n \n \n \n Assist with patient procedures and ADLs, support physical, respiratory, and cardiopulmonary therapies, provide feedback to RN and report changes in patient status. \n Perform core nursing assistant tasks: blood glucose monitoring, weights, vital signs, I&O, specimen collections, Foley care, plus at least four additional tasks (phlebotomy, 12-lead EKG, simple dressing, Foley catheter removal, point of care testing, bladder scan, straight catheter, IV catheter removal). \n Report equipment malfunctions, communicate effectively with other departments, maintain professional and respectful relationships. \n Respond to call lights and telephones, pass meal trays, transport patients. \n Receive and act on feedback, identify and communicate learning needs, participate in self-review. \n Provide instruction to patients and families under RN direction, apply, monitor, and remove patient restraints as per protocol. \n Communicate clearly with healthcare team, understand cultural diversity, horizontal violence, and impairment in health professions, support workplace safety. \n Follow all patient care and hospital policies, comply with safety policies and standard precautions. \n Suggest and support departmental changes, assume responsibility for assignments, support department projects and quality initiatives. \n Document in medical records as per procedures, perform clerical functions as needed. \n Achieve and maintain competency in advanced skills based on department need (phlebotomy/venipuncture, peripheral IV removal, indwelling Foley catheter removal, basic arrhythmia, 12-lead EKG, NG tubes clamping and removal). \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n High school diploma or equivalent \n Must have one of the following:\n \n 1 year of general healthcare experience \n 6 months as UPMC Nursing Assistant/CNA with PCT competency within 120 days of hire/transfer/promotion \n Enrollment in PT/OT/PA program or related healthcare training with at least one clinical rotation completed \n Bachelor’s degree in a health sciences field \n \n \n Successful completion of UPMC patient care technician class Successful completion of basic information system training \n Microcomputer experience preferred Effective oral and written communication skills \n EMT or Paramedic certification or enrollment in an EMT or Paramedic program preferred \n Limited access to medications, only for distribution to the nurse \n \n \n \n \n Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances: \n \n Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire \n ACLS preferred \n \n UPMC is an Equal Opportunity Employer/Disability/Veteran \n If you have any questions about the position or would like to discuss the role in more detail, our recruiter is available to assist you and provide more information to help you determine if this opportunity is the right fit for you.
