Hiringimmediately!Reports administratively to the health care administrator and clinically to the chief medical officer. Supervises the RNs and LPNs. Performs duties concerned with the care of the sick and injured, prevention of illness and promotion of good health in compliance with MTC Medical and Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction (ODRC) directives.Essential Functions:1. Provides supervision of nursing staff and nursing care.2. Attend sick call with the physicians to see inmates; prepare examining room and equipment.3. Call the Physician for medication and treatment orders and other emergencies.4. Operate pill call, dispense medication and accurately and completely document treatment as required by applicable policies and procedures.5. Examine and assess inmates with illnesses or injuries or inmates who become ill or injured; confer with physician to refer inmates to the emergency room as required by their condition and document in medical record or other forms as appropriate6. Maintain current master list of inmates and employees with on-going CID needs or documented completion of CID services.7. Plan, coordinate and implement all public health programs required by state codes.8. Ensure that appropriate annual tuberculosis screening is provided to all assigned inmates and employees.9. Perform contact investigation and referral when appropriate. Maintains telephone log.10. Ensure that HIV patients are scheduled to appropriate clinician (physician or mid-level provider).11. Coordinate and conduct CID meetings ensuring that information is shared with the Health Services Administrator and members of the health services staff.12. Ensure that medications are given, recorded and appropriate laboratory tests are obtained for patients with sexually transmitted diseases as ordered by physician or mid-level provider.13. Coordinate and ensure that immunizations are administered and recorded.14. Closely monitor all potential catastrophic illnesses.15. Provide health education on individual or group basis, as required.16. Maintain clean work area; use or direct the use of appropriate sanitation methods.17. Practice basic cost containment and utilization management for patient care and facility operations.18. Maintain absolute security and confidentiality of all medical records; observe applicable HIPAA rules.19. Review medical files to determine all provided services are documented.20. Closely monitor all potential catastrophic illnesses.21. Comply with all applicable pharmacy laws, especially those covering controlled substances.22. Observe and record inmate behavior, assess and triage with appropriate documentation23. Inspect medical unit for items that could be used as contraband by inmates; securely store or safely dispose of supplies and equipment. Control medication, syringes, or other medical supplies.24. Perform work on an on-call basis, as required.25. Provide health counseling and health education on individual or group basis, as required.26. Prepare and maintain narrative, statistical, summary and operational records, reports and logs.27. Assist corporate counsel with responses to inmate lawsuits.28. Attend scheduled staff meetings; promote communications and flow of relevant information in the medical unit.29. Facilitate, where applicable, NCCHC/ACA/JCAHO accreditation of the medical program by providing the required level of efficiency and approved, appropriate medical services.Position Description30. Prepare and disseminate safety and accident reports as required by policies and procedures; take appropriate actionin cases of serious and unusual incidents and emergencies.31. Properly chart medical care.32. Initiate and complete investigations and inquiries with accuracy, as directed, gather information and evidence, interview and obtain the statements; exercise independent judgment by determining when probable cause exists to recommend disciplinary action.33. Perform rescue functions at accidents, emergencies and disasters to include administering basic emergency medical aid, physically removing people away from dangerous situations, and securing and evacuating people from confined areas.34. Interpret an extensive variety of medical and technical instructions in the form of handwritten text, correspondence, policies, regulations, procedures, reports, directions for forms completion and other documents.35. Read, analyze, comprehend and interpret medical and technical procedures, governmental regulations, legal and non-legal documents, including the processing of such documents as medical instructions, commitment orders, summons and other legal writs.36. Promote the development of positive social skills through modeling appropriate behaviors and intervening when inappropriate behaviors are observed.It is expected that the incumbent shall perform other duties as assigned within his/her capabilities as determined by management.Education and Experience Requirements:College degree in nursing, current, valid nursing license as an RN for the state of Ohio, and three (3) year of nursing experience required. Must possess current CPR certification. Must work within Ohio state board of nursing scope of practice. Valid driver's license in the state of Ohio with an acceptable driving record required, unless waived by management.
