hope so. We are seeking a dynamic, innovative, hands-on engineer to
work in our collaborative engineering and manufacturing environment
in Cranberry Township, PA to assist in the development of our next
generation of Gas Sensors. In this role, the candidate will apply
their knowledge in order to create new and innovative products,
coordinate and perform tests on prototypes, and analyze data to
develop conclusions and next steps. If this sounds like an exciting

- Work with cross-functional, new product development teams to
establish the design, performance, and cost requirements of
catalyst-based resistive thermal chemical sensors
- Establish and implement test programs to fabricate and verify
selection of the optimal resistive elements, ceramic and catalyst
precursors, and/or adsorbent media for the sensing application
- Utilize and/ or develop safe, reliable methods to generate and
verify explosive and/or toxic atmospheres using a variety of
techniques.
- Support manufacturing in startup of new designs as well as
legacy catalyst-based resistive thermal chemical sensors, including
attention to production testing and quality control
- Keep apprised of innovative relevant technologies by tracking
technical journals, attending conferences, and networking with
experts in catalysis, air-purification, ceramics, etc
- Lead sub-projects based on reaction engineering and adsorption,
train technicians and interns in experimental techniques, and
compose test plans, in writing if needed
- Present technical material to a variety of audiences. Provide
concise technical reports to support investigations and technical
judgementsQualificationsSpecial knowledge, skills and abilities
required:
- Fundamental knowledge of solid-gas phase reactions and the
mechanisms of catalytic oxidation
- Demonstrated knowledge in many of the relevant technical
topics, including: the fabrication and performance of heterogeneous
catalysts, thick and thin film deposition especially on thermal
elements, fabrication and testing of wire resistive thermal
sensors, or MEMS analogues of thermal sensors such as
micro-hotplates
- Experience with analytical tools such as BET surface area,
chemisorption and catalyst dispersion determination, catalyst
activity determination, TGA, FTIR, XRF, XPS, XRD, SEM, TEM, and
Auger
- Knowledge of various sensor precursor materials including
ceramic colloidal slips & slurries, noble metal salts,
platinum-alloy fine wire, base metal salts, & various adsorbents
including alumina, silica, and activated carbon, as well as
material methods for their manipulation
- Familiarity with automated test systems and data collection
such as Labview, and comfort working with large data sets
- Working knowledge of statistics and awareness of techniques
such as design of experiments
- Strong written and oral communication skillsEducation and
experience required:
- Master's Degree (MS) or Ph.D in Chemical Engineering, Materials
Science, Analytical Chemistry, Physics, or Chemistry
- Two or more years of "hands-on" experience with the design,
fabrication, testing, and performance of catalysts/sorbents, and/or
