Job Description Job Description Position Summary The Electrical
Design Specialist is responsible for developing electrical wiring
and interconnection documentation for industrial control and
instrumentation systems after device selection and system
architecture have been established by the project team. This role
applies applicable electrical codes, client specifications, and
industry standards to produce practical, compliant designs that
support procurement, fabrication, and installation activities
within a collaborative environment. This position works
collaboratively across sales, engineering, procurement, and shop
operations and may provide hands-on technical support and
installation guidance as needed to meet project objectives. Key
Responsibilities • Create one-line electrical wiring diagrams,
interconnection drawings between instrumentation and terminal
blocks, termination schedules, and cable schedules for control and
instrumentation systems. • Develop wiring diagrams, junction box
layout drawings, conduit/cable routing drawings, and electrical
bills of material (BOMs) for customer submittals and internal
manufacturing. • Assist marketing staff with quotations as needed.
• Generate work instructions for installation of the electrical
scope of supply. • Interpret and apply NEC, CSA, and ATEX
requirements; client electrical specifications; and
project-specific standards, with an emphasis on oil & gas and
industrial facilities. • Select electrical interconnecting
components, including: - Wire and cable types - Conduit systems and
fittings - Cable tray systems and routing concepts - Cable glands,
entry devices, and sealing systems - Junction boxes and related
accessories • Review project documentation to ensure compliance
with electrical codes, hazardous area requirements, and client
preferences. • Develop bills of material (BOMs) for approval of
items used in build and procurement of electrical components once
client has approved. • Support shop fabrication and field
installation activities by providing technical direction,
clarification, and oversight as required. • Create inquiries to
sub-suppliers for component selection and/or costing. • Perform
installation reviews to verify conformance with drawings,
specifications, and code requirements. • Manage order placement,
expediting, and shipping coordination for all required electrical
components. • Collaborate with project engineers, electricians, and
other disciplines to efficiently resolve design and installation
issues. • Maintain accurate project documentation, drawing
revisions, and change records. Required Qualifications • Associate
degree, technical diploma, or equivalent experience in electrical
technology, industrial controls, or a related field. • Proven
experience creating electrical wiring and interconnection drawings
for industrial control systems. • Strong working knowledge of the
National Electrical Code (NEC). • Experience interpreting and
applying client electrical specifications, preferably in oil & gas
or heavy industrial environments. • Practical understanding of
conduit systems, cable tray routing, and cable gland selection. •
Ability to work across multiple functions in a collaborative
team-based environment. • Exceptional customer-facing communication
skills, with the ability to communicate clearly and professionally
with clients, suppliers, and internal teams both verbally and in
writing. • Experience working on large-scale, complex, and
innovative projects, with the ability to review and apply project
specifications. • Schedule-oriented, with strong multitasking
skills and the ability to manage and execute multiple projects at
various stages simultaneously. • Excellent judgment and
decision-making skills; solution-oriented with the ability to
resolve escalated issues. • Ability to comprehend customer
requirements and make appropriate recommendations and briefings;
capable of troubleshooting, testing, diagnosing errors or technical
problems, and determining cost-effective solutions. Preferred
Qualifications • Experience supporting manufacturing or system
integration facilities. • Prior hands-on experience with electrical
installation or field work. • Familiarity with electrical
components used in industrial and hazardous area applications,
including but not limited to conduit, cable tray, glands, terminal
boxes, purge alarms, wiring and insulation types, and HOA switches.
• Familiarity with oil & gas, petrochemical, or industrial facility
standards. • Experience with electrical design software such as
AutoCAD or similar tools.
