communities. Purpose of Role Under the supervision of the Asst AD
for Sports Medicine & Performance provide athletic training
services as part of the sports medicine team to the Daemen
intercollegiate athletic teams and or club sports (as needed) under
the direction of and collaboration with the designated Team
Physician(s) and other qualified medical personnel. About This
Opportunity Joining our Athletics team, the Assistant Athletic
Trainer will be responsible for the following: Specific
Tasks/Duties performed: Provide athletic training services for the
University's Division of Athletics, included but not limited to:
prevention, recognition, clinical evaluation and diagnosis,
immediate care, treatment, rehabilitation and reconditioning of
athletic injuries. Coordinate with the Asst AD for Sports Medicine
& Performance to staff the Athletic Training Facilities and to
provide athletic training services, including attendance at
scheduled team practices and home and away competitions as
necessary. Requires frequent evening and weekend hours; may also
necessitate early morning hours. Team travel will be required in
providing athletic training services at select away intercollegiate
contests. Assist in staffing and the day-to-day operations of the
athletic training facilities. Follow established emergency action
plans for the University's athletic facilities as well as
off-campus venues. Follow and assist with enforcement of all
policies/procedures as outlined within the Sports Medicine
policy/procedure manual, including codes of conduct and rules of
use for the athletic training facility and equipment. Consult with
Team Physician(s) for guidance on the treatment of injured
student-athletes, and report on their progress. Maintain accurate
medical records on all injuries, treatment, and rehabilitation and
physician referrals. Assist with the responsibility of maintaining
the athletic training room file system. Serve as a liaison for
student-athletes between physicians, strength and conditioning
coaches, sport coaches, athletes, parents and other health care
providers as needed. Apply a team approach with the Asst AD for
Sports Medicine & Performance, strength and conditioning coaches
and sport coaches to ensure that student-athletes participate only
when physically able and that any physician instructions are
understood and followed. Comply with any and all policies regarding
health care delivery as indicated by the University's regulations;
including the completion of University "excess insurance" claims
promptly (as needed). Assist with the collection, maintenance and
privacy of all (new and returning) student-athletes' current
contact, emergency contact, health insurance, consent and
health-status documents. Assist with pre-participation exams, as
needed, for prospective student-athletes. Provide for the
prevention of athletic injuries through the application of
protective tapings, wraps, braces, and equipment, and assist in the
design of practices to help reduce the incidence of injury. Advise
coaches and/or strength and conditioning staff of flexibility,
strengthening and conditioning programs to help prevent injuries
and optimize performance. Provide immediate care of athletic
injuries and refer student-athletes to emergency medical facilities
when necessary. Design and supervise rehabilitation programs for
athletic injuries under the direction of the Team Physician(s) or
other referring physician. Assist in budgeting, ordering and
inventory of sports medicine supplies. Educate, counsel and advise
athletes on health-related issues, including nutrition and
substance abuse. Assist with conducting institutional and or NCAA
drug testing as needed. Option to serve as a Clinical Preceptor for
an Athletic Training Program and supervise athletic training
students. Complies with the organization and administration of an
Exposure Control Plan for Bloodborne Pathogens in compliance with
the New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH) and the
Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). Maintains
professional credentials by engaging in professional development
and satisfying continuing educational requirements set forth by the
Board of Certification (BOC) for Athletic Trainers and the New York
State Education Department (NYSED). Operates the program under the
rules and regulations of the University, the NCAA, and the ECC;
understanding that an employee can be suspended for a period of
time without pay or terminated if found to be involved in
significant or repetitive violations of NCAA regulations; Perform
other duties as requested by the Asst AD for Sports Medicine &
Performance and/or Athletic Director. Required Qualifications
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Masters degree in
Athletic Training, Exercise Science, Health or Human Performance or
related field and one (1) year of direct clinical experience as a
BOC Athletic Trainer. -or- Bachelors degree in an appropriate area
outlined above and three (3) years of direct clinical experience as
a BOC Athletic Trainer. -or- a candidate with the appropriate
degree requirements and less than one ( Strong time management,
interpersonal, organizational, written and oral communication
skills. Be able to apply a 'team' approach to the delivery of
student-athletic health care. Must be able to work long periods
under conditions requiring moderate physical demands. Tolerate long
periods of standing, frequent bending, stooping, walking and
lifting. Requires exposure of outdoor elements and the ability to
tolerate extreme weather conditions. Ability to work early
mornings, evenings, weekends, holidays and travel with teams when
necessary. Valid driver's license required. License must meet
insurance company rules and regulation for driving underwriting
criteria. Required (Professional) Credentials: Possess and maintain
Athletic Training certification through the Board of Certification
(BOC) and the New York State Department of Education (NYSED).
