Job Description:
Build agency partnerships and shape profitable growth in the
field. Hastings Insurance is looking to add an experienced
Commercial Field Underwriter/Specialist to its Middle Market
Commercial Underwriting team. This position will be a key member
responsible for generating new business and maintaining strong
agency relationships within Northeast Ohio. This field-based role
complements our internal underwriting operations, balancing sound
risk selection with the development of new agency partnerships.
You’ll serve as Hastings’ in-person representative in the region,
providing guidance, collaboration, and underwriting expertise to
help drive profitability and growth in respect to our Middle Market
Commercial products. Schedule & Location: This is a full-time
position working Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The
role is remote and territory-based, requiring residence within or
relocation to the Northeast Ohio region, ideally within the
Cleveland, Akron, or Columbus metro areas. Daily travel throughout
the assigned territory is expected, and a company vehicle is
provided. What You’ll Do: Review, evaluate, and process middle
market commercial insurance applications in accordance with
underwriting guidelines. Conduct agency visits and strengthen
relationships across your assigned territory. Maintain in-depth
knowledge of commercial products, pricing, and coverages.
Communicate effectively with agents, policyholders, and internal
partners to deliver service-oriented underwriting support. Provide
input on product pricing, coverage interpretation, and training of
departmental peers. Ensure compliance with manual rules and
underwriting directives regarding risk selection and pricing.
Partner with Marketing and Loss Control during field visits to
support corporate goals. Participate in professional development
and continuing education opportunities. What You’ll Bring:
Bachelor’s degree in Insurance, Business, or Finance preferred, or
equivalent experience. 5–8 years of successful commercial lines
underwriting experience. Middle Market Lines experience highly
preferred. Proven ability to build and maintain strong agency
relationships. AU or CPCU designations preferred. Proficiency with
Microsoft Office and underwriting systems. Excellent communication,
organization, and time management skills. Valid driver’s license
and ability to travel regularly within the territory. About Us: At
